Chiltern International Fire offers free guidance on cone calorimetry testing

TI-1013: Reaction to Fire - Cone Calorimetry Testing
Untitled document

Chiltern International Fire (CIF) has published a free Technical Information Sheet TI-1013  Reaction to Fire - Cone Calorimetry Testing. As the name suggests, the cone calorimeter is based on a conically shaped heating element and can be used to test small samples of most materials and products, including solids and liquids.

By using specialised software, the test results from a cone calorimeter test can help to predict performance under EN 13823 Reaction to fire tests for building products – building products excluding floorings exposed to thermal attack by a single burning item.

Philip Howard, CIF Section Leader: Fire Behaviour said: ‘This prediction can then be used to help decide when and if a product is to be submitted for full European testing, potentially saving time and costs in the development process.’
